Our 2022 RPI Price Rises

What is RPI?

RPI stands for Retail Price Index. It is a measure of the rate of inflation. Every month, the Isle of Man Government measures inflation – changes in costs of goods and services, and the cost of living in the Isle of Man – to work out the RPI figure and publishes this on its website.

Annual RPI Price Increases

Each July, your monthly price will be reviewed and increased by an amount up to the RPI rate of inflation. If RPI is negative, then your monthly price will remain the same.

Changes to the 2022 RPI Price Rise:

In July, we increased the price that our customers pay for their broadband, landline and mobile services purchased before 1st May 2022 by 4.8%.

We have had feedback from our customers that we could have done a better job of letting you know about these price increases. Recognising this, we are now going to do the following:

  • Refund customers for the extra they have paid between 1st July 2022 and the 30th September 2022 as a result of our July price increase for any plans purchased before 1st May 2022.
  • Update our T&Cs to make it clearer when and how we will increase prices to reflect RPI in the future.
  • Give customers the option to leave your contract with us without penalty, should you wish to do so, until 1 October 2022 (although you will need to pay for any phones or other devices when leaving your contract).

Why are prices increasing?

We appreciate that it's never great to get a price rise. We do our best to make cost savings so that our customers are not impacted by our rising costs.  However, these price rises enable us to continue investing in our network and developing our products so that you get good value for money.

How do the 2022 price changes affect me?

What changes have been made to my contract?

We have made some changes to our General Terms and Conditions (T&Cs). Copies of our current and updated T&Cs can be found here.

These updates will apply from 1st October 2022:

Section 9 of our T&Cs allows us to make changes to the price of your service(s) in line with RPI every year. We think that these provisions could be clearer, so we’re updating this Section to give you more certainty about when and how we will change your prices. We’re also clarifying the process we will follow when making price changes and the circumstances under which you can leave your contract(s) without penalty.

Please note, by making our T&Cs more certain, and by adding extra information, we have made changes that you might consider have a negative impact. This means that you have the right to leave your contract(s) with Sure without penalty (although you will need to pay the outstanding balance on any equipment or handsets that you have purchased from us). You can do this until 1st October 2022.

These changes can be found in Section 9 of our T&Cs

Do I need to do anything?

If you are eligible for a refund, it will be credited to your account automatically in October.   This will be clearly visible on the bill you receive in October.

If you want to leave any or all of your contracts with us, you can. We have made changes to your T&Cs that you might consider have a negative impact. This means that you have the right to leave your contract(s) with Sure without penalty (although you will need to pay the outstanding balance on any equipment or handsets that you have purchased from us).

You will need to tell us that you want to leave before 1st October 2022. If you do decide to leave, then please complete this form Submit a request – Sure Customer Support.

I’m not happy about these changes and I’d like to speak to someone about it, what do I do?

To start with please contact us on 247247 and our advisors will be able to review this with you; there may be an opportunity to save you money by reviewing your current services.
