Controlling Data Usage
iPhones often use data in the background for syncing, updates, and location tracking. To manage your consumption:
Disable Wi-Fi Assist: This feature automatically switches to mobile data when your Wi-Fi signal is weak, which can unexpectedly use your data allowance. Go to Settings > Mobile Data, scroll to the very bottom, and toggle Wi-Fi Assist to OFF.
Monitor Usage: Go to Settings > Mobile Data. Here, you can see a breakdown of data used by each app and reset your statistics to track usage over a specific period.
Need More Data? If you consistently exceed your allowance, consider upgrading to a higher plan or adding a data booster via your MySure account or by calling us on 07624 247247.
Roaming Safely
Data charges while roaming can be significant. To protect your balance:
-
Disable Data Roaming: Go to Settings > Mobile Data > Data Roaming and toggle OFF.
Note: This prevents data from being used outside the Isle of Man. Please be aware that roaming rates still apply within the UK if you are not connected to the Sure network.
Restrict App Data: In the Mobile Data menu, scroll down to see a list of your apps. Toggle OFF any apps you do not want to use mobile data (e.g., Mail, Social Media) while abroad.
