We are currently monitoring reports of a telephone scam targeting mobile customers in the UK. While we are not aware of this specific activity on the island, we want to ensure our customers are equipped to identify and avoid such attempts.
How the Scam Works
Scammers pose as official employees from legitimate mobile network operators or suppliers. They reach out to victims offering "early upgrades" or "new contracts" at significant discounts.
Information Gathering: The caller attempts to extract your personal information, including account details, passwords, and banking information.
Fraudulent Orders: The scammer places a new contract order in your name but selects a different handset than the one you requested.
Delivery & The "Return" Ruse: The handset is delivered to your home. The scammer then calls to claim a "shipping error" has occurred and instructs you to return the device to a specific address—this address is usually a residential property.
The Result: Once the device is sent to the address provided by the scammer, they cease all contact. You are left without the device, but you remain legally liable for the full cost of the fraudulent contract created in your name.
How to Stay Safe
If you receive an unsolicited call that feels suspicious, please follow these steps:
Hang Up Immediately: If you are unsure if the caller is a genuine Sure representative, do not engage further and do not disclose any personal or financial information.
Verify the Source: Only ever contact Sure using our official, verified number: 07624 247247. If you need to check your account status, call us directly rather than trusting the caller on the other end of the line.
Never Ship Devices to Third Parties: Sure will never instruct you to send a handset to a residential address. Any return of equipment will only ever be coordinated through our official store or authorised service centres.
